About Me

TMC-10.jpg

With over two decades of experience working with diverse families and young people in Bristol, I bring extensive knowledge and awareness to my practice. My journey has taken me through roles in family centres, schools, and residential settings. Alongside my qualifications as a counsellor, I’m a trained parenting practitioner and hold a diploma in trauma-informed practice in schools. My extensive school experience includes counselling, pastoral care, staff supervision and safeguarding responsibilities.

I’m passionate about helping people, particularly young people, discover their unique strengths and navigate life’s challenges. I have always been fascinated by what makes each of us unique, and how understanding ourselves and our relationship to others can transform our lives. This self-awareness, especially when developed earlier in life, provides a strong foundation for growth, resilience and fulfilment.

My counselling style is integrative, drawing on different theories and techniques, particularly a person-centred and psychotherapeutic approach, strongly influenced by emotion-focused therapy, Gestalt and attachment theory. My intuitive style allows me to adapt to what is needed in each situation with each client, according to their needs. I offer the use of creative arts, but there is no pressure to use them if that’s not your thing.

Counselling Approach

Tailored Support

I believe in offering tailored support that meets the unique needs of each individual. Every person's experiences and struggles are different, and my counselling approach reflects the understanding that personalised care is essential for meaningful progress.

Emotional Exploration

I encourage emotional exploration in a safe and non-judgmental space. It's important to provide the opportunity for young people to openly express and process their feelings, creating a foundation for personal insight and growth.

Creative Resources

Incorporating creative resources into counselling sessions allows for a unique way to connect with and process emotions. Whether it's through art, writing, or other forms of expression, these resources can offer additional avenues for self-discovery and healing.

‘Change occurs when we become who we are, not when we try to be what we are not.’ - Beisser 1970

Ethics

My counselling practice is grounded in a strong commitment to ethical principles, ensuring that every client feels respected, valued, and safe. I follow the BACP ethical guidelines and professional standards of confidentiality and integrity, always prioritising the well-being and autonomy of those I work with.

Central to my ethical approach is creating a space free from judgment, where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions within a relationship of trust and openness. I continuously engage in professional development and supervision to ensure that my practice remains compassionate, inclusive, and responsive to the diverse needs of each person.

I am fully insured and my DBS check is registered to the update service. Details available upon request.
